Laura Ashley Plc (ALY.L)
December 18th, 2007The great bastion of 1980s floral chic has grown out of its clothes.
Not necessarily that the fawning Princess Di lookalikes of SW3 have got a bit large across the beam, more that the firm has found itself in fashion again.
The question for investors is: “Will it find itself climbing the FTSE as much as watching Trinny and Susannah makes us climb the walls?”

December 18th, 2007 at 8:49 amI remember when Laura Ashley had all those problems and looked like it would disapear be it for it’s brand name and value/sentiment was way low. Share price was around 26p. Guess what I’ve just had a quick look and guess what it’s still 26p. Nothing to get me excited about although my good lady and I went in to do some christmas shopping at the new Stevenage store. Well Father Christmas will be busy after all, bringing my little one a new duvet cover. I on the other had did my shopping next door….The new Maplin store. Just a boys dream!

The old cliché has it that as far as the stockmarket is concerned one should go away in May and come back again on St Leger Day. What? And miss out on all the fun? Reeling retailers. Broken banks. Crunching credit. There’s so much more than mere capital accumulation, yield and dividend. Not only are there bargains out there but also more than the odd laugh.
