3i Plc (iii)

April 24th, 2008

Anyone who is interested in business and investing is fully familiar with the work of the once Government-owned 3i.

As the mastodon of the British venture capital industry it is something of a bellwether for the investing market itself.

So when it comes to make a pronouncement about what it is going to do in the future it could have a huge effect on all of us. Or not, as the case maybe.

Dechra Pharmaceuticals Plc (DPH.L)

April 23rd, 2008

Like the Bloody Mary, the search for the perfect defensive stock goes on and on.

Dechra Pharmaceuticals might be a good shout because two things unlikely to be hit hard by recession are animals and drugs.

So why not manufacture and supply then through your own channel direct to the market.

888 Holdings Plc (888.L)

Some of us went for the internet gambling boom. Some of us were even smart enough to quit while we were ahead.

On the other hand some of us ignored the warnings and stayed in long enough to get hammered thanks to the US Congress.

Recent history is littered with the corpses of internet gaming firms. Not 888, it seems…

Mothercare Plc (MTC)

April 21st, 2008

Parenthood is a leap of faith. As anyone who has become a parent knows, you can’t know anything until you’ve done it.

Therein lies the paradox - investors are sceptical people, and parents learn pretty quickly to be wary.

So when all is going to pot, scoop up your little ones, give them a massive hug and then invest in Mothercare.

What would be your answer if someone came up to you in the street and asked you what you thought of polls?

a) I’m busy, leave me alone. b) They make great plumbers c) I’m just glad someone is asking my opinion d) How much are the shares.

Well, in case you’ve been living on Mars, you’ll know this is an election year and your answer should have been d).

Pinewood Shepperton Plc (PWS)

Investing in films really is one way to get your portfolio shaken and stirred. And empty, if not actually investment suicide.

But if you must there is growth to be had in taking a view on a properly run studio. Maybe even one as famous as 007 himself.

As one of the spy’s baddest enemies once said while attempting to fry his loins: “No, Mr Bond. I expect you to buy!”

    Hi team, greetings from America.

The show is definitely moving in the right direction, Alison is a fantastic presenter and the new gags are working well. I like all the pictures faded in the background, very much like Wallstrip. Keep it up!

“Magnificent, Ms. Moneyhoney”. My dear pal Ali Bell, you’re word is your Bond.

Sci Entertainment Group Plc (SEG)

It may surprise you to know that Lara Croft is ten years old. All right she doesn’t exist, but her creators do.
Sci Entertainment Group, started by Jane Cavanagh in 1988, soared on the back of the success of the pneumatic-breasted avatar.
But while everyone else has made virtual hay in computer-gameland, Sci has hit the scuppers. Is it time for a little bottom-fishing.

I am absolutely in love with your new presenter, Alison. Wasn’t she on CNN?
Funny, witty, intelligent and pretty … where ever did you find her??

    THANK YOU

I agree. There is something about the new presenter that is very, very nice.
    Keep it up

Kingfisher Plc (KGF)

There has been a theory around that when the housing market turns south DIY stores do quite well as people tend to stay put.
There is a counter-theory that says this is nonsense and that it is particularly not true when the store in question is a dull as B&Q.
Well, we say there’s a third theory, and that is what has gone as far down as it can because its so bad can only improve. Anyway it’s a good excuse for a lot of puerile gags.

  1. Dylan Minto Says:

I would just like to say that I thought the Kingfisher video was distasteful, if not verging on appalling. It told me nothing I would need to know as an invester in this stock. I would expect iii to portray a much more professional image than the current iball video backlog entails. As a regular investor in iii, I was pleased to see the roll out of iball, however very few of the videos really provide proper insight and leave the viewer wondering how much the people making these videos really know about general investments/economic matters. The content and complexity of iball needs an urgent rework and does not reflect well on iii as a serious business.

  2. Andy T Says:

Dear me, Mr Chuckles has come to town. I laughed out loud.

  3. Chris R Says:

This video tells you nothing and is inaccurate.
Who says B&Q stores are dull? and why so many sexual innuendo’s stick to interviews with company executives and less of the video entertainment business!!!!

  4. thecustomer Says:

I wouldn’t trus’t the opinion of any’one who i’s too dim to us’e an apostrophe correctly. Doh!

Security vans take us back to an era of villainy characterised by flared trousers, tank tops, sawn-off shotguns and bad haircuts.
But the industry has moved a long way from armoured Transit vans, with systems and electronic security very much part of the landscape.
And that’s before half a decade of war made everyone a bit jumpy about their security. G4S seems to have stopped losing prisoners and started making money…

Famously, putting your money in to the making of films is a bit, well, risky.

But if you are as much of an investing buff as a film fan then aiming at the cinema could be a better idea.

There’s one group out there that has had a bumper year and it just seems to keep getting better.
