BlueStar SecuTech Plc (BSST)

August 13th, 2008

We live in a world where walking out of your front door sees you on a security camera wherever you might be or whatever you might be doing.

Even if you are not doing anything you can be seen by some fat bloke in a control room with a joystick in his hand. And it is getting more popular by the day.

So never mind moaning about the Orwellian consequences of that, just get on in there and ride the investment wave.

Connaught Plc (CNT)

August 12th, 2008

Connaught is the kind of company that no-one really ever anticipates working for but probably does.
Really, how many eight-year-olds would say, 'When I grow up I want to work in health & safety compliance.'

Well, someone has got to and in times like this, it might be better to don ones safety boots…

London & Stamford Plc (LSP)

August 11th, 2008

Vultures might be ugly and smelly but where the City is concerned they can be rather attractive.

Especially if they happen to be ominously circling the property industry as it begins to stagger behind the herd.

And London & Stamford know what they are talking about. If they smell blood, so should we.

iBall interviews Ralph Silva

August 8th, 2008

Ralph Silva of Tower Group is a commentator much in demand for his robust views on the state of health of the banking industry.

The words credit crunch are used so often now they have become almost a cliche.

But how long will it go on, when will we see the end and what is going to be the long term effect?

If you have got kids or you are a shoplifter you know exactly what the value of this high street favourite is.

But if you are an investor you might be shaking your head in horror right now. Well, we still love Woolies…

Game Group Plc (GMG)

Spotty, friendless Facebook addicted self-abusers with skin like a greased up shotgun wound. You must be talking about gamers.

Or not, apparently. See, Game Group has been making a few quid because normal people with friends and jobs apparently use their shops.

And without a new game system on the horizon the shares look almost like they might be good value until one comes along. Boom!

Tate & Lyle Plc (TATE)

Not sure where the saying sweet as a nut comes from, but we think it is time for doing something sweet nonetheless. After all it is holiday season and therefore a good time to talk about soft commodities. What else?

We would not be the first ones to tell you that sugar appears to be too cheap. Perhaps Tate & Lyle would agree.

Our search for a decent defensive stock knows no boundaries and even the tiniest stone gets turned over.

How about this for an idea. If the housing market and the credit crunch are so bad, there is one thing people will need.

A place to stash their belongings while they sit it out. Just because storage does not go anywhere does not mean it is dull.

iBall interviews NOMAD Andrew Edwards

August 1st, 2008

In good times Nomads make great money as they bring the lifeblood of new issues to the Alternative Investments Market.

In bad times they are in a world of difficulty with few or no IPOs there is little to keep them in a living.

Yet their unique view on the state of the market can give us all useful guidance. Oriel Securities’ Andrew Edwards is certainly worth a listen.

If you have got young children you will know exactly what keeps them quiet in front of the old electric nanny.

Postman Pat is a star, but Entertainment Rights has more than just Britain's best loved cat owning postal worker.

Lassie, the Lone Ranger and as many classics as you could wish for. Hey, maybe even Mum and Dad will be watching out for their stock…
