Aviva Plc (AV)

July 15th, 2008

What is a girl to do. As she has got older it has all started to go south a bit. She has got bigger and as a result a bit lonely.

So how does she find a soul mate? And, frankly who cares if she has got a GSOH or penchant for the outdoors and a love of small dogs?

None of that matters when you are an insurance company and unloved and unfashionable. But, being as we are the beholder, we can see the beauty.

It strikes me that Miss Aviva is suffering from the same unfair treatment the british enties to the Eurovision song contest. Its just not fashionable to be seen with an insurer these days.

A close examination of Miss Aviva’s past will highlight that she has quite a reputation with some very manly heavyweight banks and some ‘bancassurance partnerships’ that must get her into analmost star role on Gossip Girl.

Personally, I think she makes good apple pie and that over time i’ll appreciate her value more!

Reuters Group Plc

Reuters was the definition of journalistic tenacity. Get the message through even if it’s by a pigeon.

But times have changed since the telegraph wires first crackled with news, and changed a lot.

And the giant of the wires wavered, but didn’t go down – can they take on the competition? Perhaps with a little tenacity.

iBall interviews Brian Tora

January 18th, 2008

Brian Tora is as unique as his name. Over a long career in the investment industry he has evolved from stock broker to sought after commentator, broadcaster and writer.

Most famous for his lovely market commentary when he was Investment Communications Director of stockbroker Gerrards, he is now in refuse – to – retire mode as principal of the The Tora partnership.

So he knows a thing or two about investing. He is also, as you will discover, one of the nicest men in the City of London.

Doubling up on Dawson - love it :-) Great bloke, bit of wisdom, bit of humility.

    Yay! that’s my dad!

I don’t think he knows the meaning of retirement :)

Sadly I google far less well.
